Check out my new Ride 6

Hills + Wind + Baby Jogger = a tough workout.  Now, I don’t like to toot my own horn, but I have to give myself a pat on the back every once in a while.  I think I feel more accomplished after a tough 3 mile run pushing a baby jogger up a hill than I do after a longer 8-10 mile run by myself.  Sometimes I like to think of myself as SuperMom that can do it all.  Anyways, my workouts at the end of the week consisted of a few 3-4milers, which included hill repeats with the baby jogger.  Okay, I guess only one hill isn’t plural and therefore is not considered repeats, but one hill was all I needed.  Plus Friday evening was  somewhat windy and made it even more challenging.
(My Hill, it's bigger than it looks)
My last couple of workouts gave me a chance to experience the Saucony Ride 6 for the first time.  Even though iRun has always carried the Ride, which does really well for many of our runners, I personally have never run in this shoe.......although I did run my first half marathon in a pair of Saucony Triumphs way back when I started to realize the importance of getting fit for the right shoe .  What I’ve always liked about Saucony is the way it hugs my arch but gets wider in the toe box, so my toes never feel like they are suffocating.  Right off the bat the forefoot cushioning was a bit firm for my liking but definitely not uncomfortable, this shoe was made for high mileage training.  I’m sure after a few weeks of breaking it in the cushioning will feel perfect.  The upper mesh was soft and breathable, including a soft tongue and soft heel counter.  Very rarely do I  notice the tongue or the heel but in this shoe I noticed an overall comfort of the padding in these areas.  For someone that needs a more traditional shoe, with a firmer midsole and is comfortable with the 8mm drop this would be a good choice.  One thing I did notice, the Ride doesn’t feel like a very responsive shoe, instead it feels like it has better shock absorption.  Last but not least and most importantly,  I actually like the color of this shoe. It’s a little more subtle with the darker grey and a touch of neon orange and purple......not too flashy.  Overall, it did well on the 3 milers we completed this weekend and the one hill repeat we charged up.  I’ll keep running in the Ride 6 and give it a whirl on my next long run.  I’d like to see how my feet hold up in this shoe after 10 plus miles.

Welcome Back Adidas

(I will work on my pictures, I promise)
 My new Adidas Supernova Glides

Supernova Glide 6:

Let me preface this first by saying, it’s been a long time since I’ve made it my obsession to run all day every day.  How come, you might ask yourself?  Well, I’m going to use the age old excuse (and a good one I have learned)……….. I am a full time mom, with a full-time job and so therefore I need full time rest whenever possible.  My goal this year is to make running my obsession again, but this time it will typically include my 1 ½ year old, a baby jogger and a sippy cup.  So, let’s just use this past Saturday as my start date and the beginning of my footwear blog.  By the way, did you know that we have Adidas in stock again? We are carrying the Adidas Supernova Glide and the Adistar Boost!

Now that we are carrying Adidas again, I thought I’d better give these bad boys a try.  I’ll be honest, traditionally I have stuck with my first love the Brooks Ravenna.  The Ravenna and I are the perfect match but this year I’ve decided it’s time for a change.  New hairdo, new running apparel, new shoe and maybe even a new sports bra.  I am ready to start hitting the pavement again regularly….. as long as it’s not too cold, of course.  My first test run in the Supernova Glide 6 was a hilly 3 miler with my dog and little Arcade Fire in the background to get my morning run started off right, followed by a 6 miler the next day with the iRun training class .  I have to say this shoe feels like a lightweight trainer.  Light, soft, and somewhat low profile especially in the forefoot.  If you like to feel the road and still want a soft ride, I think this might be the best of both worlds.  This Boost cushioning technology has a nice little bounce to it, which I first noticed when I tried it on in the store.  The upper is extremely flexible, soft and breathable.  I loved the seamless mesh, so I think anyone with bunion issues might still feel comfortable in this shoe.  The only other thing for me that made this shoe work was adding my Powersteps, which I like for extra arch support.  Overall, the Supernova Glide was a success, I think it will remain on my weekly shoe rotation and for sure my next 5K race.

First Time Blogger

So first and foremost I'm not a writer, a marathon maniac, or a trend setter.  I am however, a mama, a runner, race director/events manager/social media coordinator and now BLOGGER!  I like to run and I love shoes, clothes, food, beer and wine, so now I've been given the task of writing about these things for the iRun Tested, iRun Approved blog.  Hopefully, my lack of creativity, wittiness and insight does not bore the hell of everyone and you all turn around and run out of store instead of running into the store.

Check back for the first footwear blog on my new pair of Supernova Glides.

Thanks for reading,

P.S. I HATE taking pictures of myself!!!!
